Композиция описывает разные сцены любви и расставания через образы глаз разных цветов: серые — прощание на пристани, чёрные — тропическая ночь, карие — скачки по равнине, голубые — прощание в Симле. Автор, несмотря на неудачи в любви, верит в её вечность и готов снова петь любовную литанию.
